i will do the honors and crown myself as the queen of online shopping, and no, not just online shopping, BARGAIN online shopping. of course, i would love to be able to online shop as if i just won the lotto, but i am not quite at that baller status yet, and a girl has gotta save, so i do quite a bit of online shopping. and by “quite a bit” i do mean every free minute i have. i love going to boutiques around miami and laughing at what they charge for the same shirt i found online. seriously, why would i pay $65 for a skull shirt when i know at least four different online sites (that i visit on the reg.) that are selling them for $24.99 – $32. ugh sorry, i’d rather buy two shirts for the price of one, if ya know what i mean.

but i am real bitchy about telling people where i have found my bargains. i have this theory that if too many people start buying from them, then their prices will go up, and that will totally ruin my game plan! maybe by the end of this post i will develop a soft spot for my followers and share one of them.

tip: best way to save with online shopping is to sign up for their newsletters. yes it sucks getting spammed a million times a day by countless companies, but most of the time, those emails contain lots of beneficial information. for example, one of the new websites i found, i signed up for the newsletter, as i browsed the website, of course had a cart full of items but didn’t actually purchase yet. sure enough i check my email a few hours later and most of the items i had selected had gone on sale, 40% off. that was music to my ears. i literally could have cried from excitement.

tip: lets say you fell in love with a pair of shoes on a website like sam edelmanfind out what the name of the shoe is, go to google, search the shoe (under shopping) and it will show you all the places where you can purchase that shoe, and how much. i do it all the time, and save myself SO MUCH MONEY!

tip: before checkout, google the website you are on, followed by coupons. sometimes you will find awesome coupons, sometimes you won’t, but it doesn’t hurt to check it out.

tip: social media does goes a long way. most companies give you a discount just for liking them on facebook, or following them on twitter.

so today, as i was doing my usual online shopping i came across this super cute tribal sweater. of course i look on all of my websites, since they pretty much carry the same clothes, and here is the perfect example of WHY you should look around before purchasing.

well good morning back fat becky

today is one of those days, you know when you try on half of your closet.. from an outfit you have worn a thousand times to that big ‘ol sweatshirt, it doesn’t matter what you put on you feel like two humpback whales gave birth and voila, there you are… standing in front of your mirror trying to not feel like you gained 43 pounds over night. i must have put on 17 different tops today and thought i looked disgusting in every single one of them. from my hair to my accessories, nothing was going my way. i have come to the conclusion on days like this you just need to breathe in, breathe out and embrace your inner fat ass. i settled on a pair of free people skinny jeans, a tank top matched with a grey cardigan over it and juicy couture flats. i find it easiest to just add a layer on top, or wear something that doesn’t cling on those days where you don’t quite feel up to par. what do you wear on your fat days?

so, i started writing for a blog as the fashion writer, and by started, i do mean that i have only written one post. this week i wrote about cobalt blue and why you need it. oh and my top blue choices! enjoy. ;]

If there is one color you need to add to your winter wardrobe, it’s this deep hue. Of course, by add I mean anything from accessories for your outfit, to a main piece like a blouse or a dress. This vibrant color goes well with every skin tone or hair color, so basically anyone can pull it off, and this bold color is sure to brighten up those winter blues.

fall must have: leg warmers, but do you know how to rock them? i never thought i would actually own a pair of leg warmers but now that i have a pair, i just can’t get enough. i bought mine for a different reason other than for protecting my legs from the cold, i bought them for my halloween costume. thank you american apparel for my complete costume. i was the kissing bandit for halloween (pictured below). anyways, halloween is over and done with and now i have a pair of leg warmers laying around my room. so how do you wear them with out looking like how do i put this nicely, stupid, or you are straight out of the 80s.  leg warmers can be paired with stockings, tights, leggings or even a pair of skinny jeans. wearing them over a pair of converse is also super cute for a chill day, along w. an off the shoulder sweater and pair it w. leggings. for those DIY kinda people, you can use an old sweater as your new cool leg warmers. how you ask? cut off the sleeves, maybe slide some ribbon through to help them stay up and bada bing bada boom you’ve just made yourself some cute leg warmers. don’t wear them out for a night on the town, don’t wear them do dinner. they are meant to be worn for casual occasions. unless, you are wearing them under a pair of boots. the leg warmers/ long socks have to come about 2 inches higher than the boots. wear any color you want. pair it with a dress. don’t know where to buy them? forever 21, american apparel, macys .. it is winter, you really should have no problem.

i’m a mouse, DUH!

countdown, 18 days away. excitement, growing by the minute. i have been waiting months for halloween. i came up with my costume idea maybe mid march, and have been anticipating hallows eve ever since. i think making your costume is so much more fun than just going to party city and picking one up. even if you steal the EXACT same idea from one of those mass produced, and just make it yourself, kinda gives you some individuality. hottest thing since sliced bread, lady gaga. do you know how many people are going to be lady gaga for halloween? about 345,523,677,231 and that is probably just in miami alone! at least if you make your costume you can look a tid bit different, tweek a few things, you know, stand out from the crowd. i have 3 different things i want to be for halloween (and that was eliminating about 4 of them), – i don’t want to be a repeat costume offender!

for those who are into making their own costumes, american apparel is by far the best place to shop for them. especially if you are like most girls and are going for the hoochie mama look ;p. all of the pieces are simple and you can add on to them. bonus if you don’t destroy the pieces you can actually wear them when its not halloween. (this is what I am doing, pictures coming soon!)

the question is, what to do for halloween? lincoln road is always a great time.. i worked it last year (no, not like that – i did the pr for it) and it was jam packed. costumes galore.. dogs, cats, kids, hot guys, girls … you see everything! if you are into halloween, this is a great place to go and it is free! there is also the swedish house mafia – back in black party, sat. oct 29.

so you still don’t know what to be for halloween, or you are too lazy to actually think of a costume.. SHAME ON YOU! here are a few ideas for everyone. cheap andddd easy to do.

girl costumes:
sasha fierce – black leotard. stockings. heels
cat, dog, bunny, etc. – leotard in the designated color depending on the animal, buy a tail, paint on a nose or whiskers, and don’t forget about the ears!
grapes – buy purple balloons, blow them up and stick them to you. brown tights for the stems and you’re good to go.
nudist – i  don’t think I have to explain this costume.
cereal killer – wear a black dress, stick cereal boxes to yourself, with some fake blood on it and carry around a knife (preferably not a real one)
daisy duke/cowgirl – plaid shirt, tied. short short short shorts, and cowboy boots.

guy costumes:
douche bag – wear a garbage bag, and put a sign on you saying douche.
a mime – dress in all black, white gloves and paint your face white.
ghost – all you need is a sheet!
chick magnet – buy peeps at the grocery store.. stick them on to your clothing or a garbage bag, anything really. please don’t use real chicks, its mean and it will hurt them! fear & loathing in las vegas – patterned, short-sleeve, collared shirt / sneakers / aviator sunglasses / fedora / khaki shorts

and if anyone can pull this lego man off, i will marry you.

sleepless in seattle

have you ever just been completely excited about something and you don’t know what to do with yourself? you plan something months in advance and never think the day is ever going to get come. those long agonizing months fly by, and all of a sudden realize that that something is less than a week away…then 3 days away, & before you know it, it’s the day before and you just don’t know how you are supposed to focus on anything? trips/vacations, no matter the duration or where you are going, always make you feel like a little kid. takes me back to when i was a youngster and it was the night before a trip to disney. sleep? yeah rightttt. i would lay awake in my bed with wide eyes waiting anxiously until it was 4 or 5 am. that feeling in your stomach of utter excitement is unexplainable, your stomach is in knots, you are anxious, but that good kind of anxious, hoping any minute your parents will wake up and say “okay it is time to go!”

leading up to the night before is the sucky part. i hate packing. mainly because i always over pack and get this pit in my stomach that has been formed because of my tendencies to leave something important behind.  i never know what to wear on a vacation. this is what i love about vacations, everyone dresses to impress. vacations call for new clothes, new shoes, you get your nails done, you go to the extremes to make sure you look good when you go on vacation.  i always pick out all my cutest outfits and lay them out, but end up not wearing half of the things i take with me. 7 pairs of pants, 5 dress , 3 skirts, wedges, heels, sneakers, sandals, boots, rain boots, flip flops… the whole shebang, all for a 4 day trip. you know JUST IN CASE… you happen to climb a mountain or go to an extravagant event, or maybe even meet the president… i like to think about all of the possibilities. this trip i decided to be efficient and make a packing list. (also because i have this weird fear that my suitcase will get lost in transit so i have decided to pack light, so there is no way my bag will be able to leave my sight!)i leave tomorrow on my trip to seattle. i have made the list, but i have not started to actually pack anything. (except of course my camera.. which is already placed in my suitcase.) how exciting is going to a new city that you have never been to? ahhh seattle<3, where i can walk the same streets as meredith and derrick (if you don’t get the reference please refer to this), maybe turn on the radio and catch an episode of Fraiser … and if i am oh so lucky, catch a fish at the fish market like in the real world seattle. is it sad that i am basing everything i want to do in seattle around all my favorite tv shows? naah i didn’t think so.

if you know me, you know the kitchen and i don’t mix, unless of course i am making myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. i can count the amount of times on one hand that i have cooked a meal for myself other than eggs, and pasta (which i didn’t know how to make until i got to college.) college was a big four years for me in the learning to do things on my own phase of my life. freshman year, i learned how to open a can of tuna with a can opener.. junior year, i learned how to cut an onion, these may be very simple things for most people but i, the spoiled child that i was growing up had no idea how to do anything. i used to be in-charge of the sweet potatoes with marshmallows on thanksgiving, but that quickly ended when the marshmallows caught on fire. i am notorious for being clumsy, and my roommates in college new this, so you can imagine the trust they had in my cooking. with that said, 2012 has been all about learning how to cook – or bake. i have started this thing where i bake cakes for my friends on their birthdays. these cakes are straight from the box, you know the just add water and some oil and voilà you are done. (and if you think these cakes are dummy proof, well you are wrong my friend i have also some how, shape or form managed to forget to add oil. you can just guess how that cake turned out – one giant disaster.) of course my cakes have gotten better the more i do them, but this time i wanted a challenge. i had stumbledupon a recipe for chocolate chip cookies with an oreo in the middle. the picture made them look absolutely delicious that i HAD to try it out. this was my very first time ever baking something from scratch so please please please bare with with me.

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large egg
1 (12 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels (i used milk chocolate..)
1 pack of oreos

how to make them:

pre heat the oven to 375. (of course i completely forgot this step when i was baking)

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

(when doing this i wouldn’t use the mixer, use wooden spoon because it was extremely difficult with that contraption)

Gradually beat in flour mixture. stir in the chocolate chips.

caution, the wooden spoon might break.

now, get an oreo, put one scoop of the cookie dough on top of the cookie and one scoop on the bottom.

it might get a little messy.

don’t forget to put butter on the baking sheets.. (i almost forgot that too)

stick the cookies in the oven, wait about 12 minutes… and there ya go.

okay, i know i know this is the prime example of expectation vs. reality. i was so disappointed when i took them out of the oven. i was like WHAAAT! this is not what the picture looked like. but as i was eating one these delectable cookies, i realized you are supposed to take the excess cookie that is around the oreo off.. so it is kinda a perfect cookie.. you get some delicious oreo/choc. chip cookies and you also just get a bunch of plain ones too.

when i was done baking, i rushed over to a friends house and handed out my goodies. they didnt last til the next morning. so i guess that was a sign they were good. whoooo hooo! i was so happy until i received a text the next morning saying that i gave everyone a tummy ache. ;\ but i think it was because they ate too many!

oh well.

don’t let that discourage you on trying out the recipe for yourself. i promise, they were scrumdiddlyumptious.

do you smell it? i smell it, and no its not what the rock is cooking. it smells like football season. whether you are a college football fan (go gators) or an NFL lover, sometimes wearing team shirts that are 3x too big, make you feel like you are one of the guys, instead of the i’m cute cause i hang out w. the boys kinda look.  the shirts you buy at the college stores or sports authority tend to be made for men, and the ones that are made for women, are made for women in their 50s and most likely designed by women in their 80s. all the shirts are awkwardly short or bedazzled. it seems trying to find a shirt to represent your team gets a bit hard and costly especially if you don’t like to be a repeat offender EVERY saturday for the next 4 months.

solution, accessories go a long way. the other day i wore an orange tank (with wide leg jeans .. not pictured) and a blue ring to show my gator pride. (only picture i had.. i need a new photographer!)

solid color shirts work too. they are cheap. most stores have sales where you can get them 2 for this much, or 3 for that much. get your school colors then pair them with jeans or shorts.. mix it up a bit and you have at least half of the season covered.

you can even add a jean shirt on top of your tank to be a little more stylish.

don’t forget, forever21, target and pink by victoria’s secret have tons of collegiate wear.

making shirts is fun too. if you are stuck in your ways and love those shirts that make fun of your teams’ rivals, then check this out, this is a cute idea on how to make a shirt.

when doing every ones go to look, yeah you know what i am talking about the -off the shoulder, and think i am the the one who invented the look,- make sure you don’t make the cut too big, because then you will have to deal with the constant adjustments and the peep show for all to see. listen, we’ve all been there. besides, off the shoulder shirts make it a little difficult when shooting during an intense beer pong match.

so i made a shirt recently. documented it, poorly, but you can still get the jist of it. i found this captain morgan shirt that i got one night out while in college and decided to put my creativity to use.

all you need is a big shirt, and scissors.

cut the sleeves off. diagonally.

this is what it should look like once you cut both of the arms off.

cut the collar off (try to keep it all attached..). don’t throw it away though!

last step, flip the shirt over. use the collar you cut off and connect the two sides of the shirt together. ( i know it is kinda hard to see in this picture)

that’s it. final product..
